Invite to our 9 to 5 Club Night

March 28, 2008 · 1 Comment

The 9 to 5 Club event night is a career and fashion night happening in the Westbury on Wednesday 23rd April.

One of the things that has come up recently is how females are less than reluctant to put themselves forward for promotion and advancement in the workplace. So we have combined some motivational speakers along with helpful style and beauty advice all with a working slant for a fun night.

  • Confident Communication in the Workplace – Tricia Murphy, TIG.ie
  • 1 Day , 1 Outfit, – Mary Holmes, Image Consultant, Ruby Seven  -How to transform your look from the office to after hours
  • Career Coaching – How to Plan the Career you want

Before the speakers begin we are going to have time to sample some beauty products, look at some makeovers given by Benefit (or participate in them) and NOW are giving out FREE 10 min massages relieving all that work stress.

There will be Career consultants at hand to answer any queries.

We will also be giving away a few prizes on the night.

It’s on in the Westbury Hotel in Dublin on Wednesday 23rd April.

We have tried to keep the door price as low as possible €12.00 to get in.

There will be a glass of wine and we are currently working on a big brand cosmetics company who will be doing make-overs before the talks.

We are excited about it and hope to pull together a night that you enjoy.

Upskilling

Getting to where you want in your career is not a quick step process. Look at the profilesof PA’s who have been recognised by their peers and you will see one thing in common. The want to continue to learn new skills that will improve your performance at work.

I came across this site which offers a wide range of short training courses. Professional Development are well established and I hear good at what they do best. Train.

Here is a list of some of the course available. Let us know if you have been on one or been to a course that you would recommend.

The dying art of conversation

March 19, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I have to say I am not really suprised on results shown in a recent survey I came across printed in last weeks newspapers, that Irish office workers prefer to email work colleagues, suppliers and customers as opposed to picking up the phone and talking to them. The survey showed email as first preference of communication, 2nd preference -face to face meet, 3rd preference- the good old fashioned phone call and last horror of horrors, a call direct to a mobile number.

Hands up who hasn’t spent 5 minutes writing an email they are happy with, going out to a prospective client, when they could have easily just picked up the phone and called to say just as much and more.

With so much emphasis on communicating through social networking sites and covering ourselves by email communication in the workplace, are we in danger of forming a new culture of office workers with a dislike of talking to our colleagues by phone?

Hello world!

March 12, 2008 · 1 Comment

Hi there

Welcome to our first working nine to five post. Writing to you about everything and anything to do with your working daily life in the office or in your administration career.

It could be about something as simple as how to do up a perfect CV or just a comment on the photocopier that is driving us mad today.

Our aim is not to bore and always, always, trivialise this crazy life where we get up every day, go in to our offices and try our hardest not to be the first one to fall off the treadmill.

We look forward to chatting with all you gals and guys (10%) out there working in office administration.
